Cheeky Blue Cheese by Powerhouse: Review
Visually stunning and wonderfully idiosyncratic cheese. There are some cheese makers that just ooze individuality, and the one at Powerhouse Cheese is certainly one of them. Cheeky Blue cheese by Powerhouse is not quite like any other cheese I’ve had. The outside has a dramatic speckles of blue on top of a soft white mould rind that provides an earthy, fermented aroma with a little ammonia. There’s no blueing to be found inside. Instead the yellow paste is a gooey double or triple cream soft cheese. The flavour experience is fairly unusual and utterly divine with its combination of lush creamy dairy richness from the paste combined with a mineral and herbal blue cheese experience from the rind.
This is cheesemaking with soul, individuality, and artistry.

Tricky…the dairy soft centre says a full bodied white like chardonnay. But the blue outside usually says port. Maybe try a sweet muscat wine from Rutherglen. Or see my cheese and wine pairing guide for more options.
