Newblood Shiraz 2019: Review
Before we start: If you are new to drinking non-alcoholic wine try my 2 minute Guide to Non-Alcoholic Wine and my Top Non-Alcoholic Drinks Picks. This is amongst the best non-alcoholic dry whites I’ve tasted, and amongst the very few that have managed to make a dry white that lack ‘wet cardboard’ flavour that blights many non-alcoholics. The flavour profile of Newblood Chardonnay 2019 changes a lot with temperature and was most balanced when slightly chilled, but not fridge cold. The flavour profile is a little unusual because all three flavour groups associated with white wines are present simultaneously: citrus, stone fruit and tropical. It is usual for a white wine to contain one or maybe two of these groups, but not all three concurrently. The dominant flavour in this wine is lemon/lime. but there are additional elements of pineapple juice, stone fruits and green capsicum. As a result there is something about this wine that tastes a little unlike any other chardonnay.
A good dry non-alcoholic white with no regrets the next day. Will be a repeat buy for me.
