Geoff Hardy Lagrein 2015: Review
Lagrein is a red grape native to Trentino Alto Adige in the north-east of Italy. Genetically, it is related to teroldego grape; but here Geoff Hardy Lagrein is being made in South Australia’s Limestone Coast.
This is the second Geoff Hardy wine I’ve had this year, the first being in my pre-reviewing days when I had his superb gruner-veltliner from the Henty region of Victoria.
This wine is balanced, savoury medium bodied red, and a lot less fruit driven than most wines from South Australia. The tannin is quite restrained by way of comparison to its Italian counterparts which often have lots. Wine Companion gave it 92/100 points.

Food Matching | Food Pairing
This is a food wine; best with meaty stews. For cheese try a semi-hard or hard cheese such as L’Artisan Fermier, Section 28 Monforte, or Bay of Fires Clothbound Cheddar, or see my cheese and wine pairing guide for more options.
Where to Buy
Always try Wine Searcher which list many stockists with prices in the range of AUD 17-25. I got mine at auction from Langtons, or the winemaker’s website.
